7:40 AM Hey, trying to give you a +4 hour notice here, but I won't be able to make it into my 2-10pm shift. My brother was just ar sted and he's about to be transported to Wisconsin. It's a long story, but I need to be there for my family and to visit him before he goes. I am sorry for the abruptness, but it is a four hour notice. If you need confirmation, I have the mugshot. 7:40 AM SMS

That is really not a legitimate excuse to call out Just know that you will be wrote up for this. I can understand where you're coming from, but I do need to be there for my family today and I am giving you a +4 hour notice. Alright. I understand, ma'am.

Also you're calling out today you will work Tuesday. You just calling out because you want Sundays off. I'm not stupid by far. I physically can't work Tuesday because I already made plans for that considering the schedule. I'm not just larking here, it's literal thing and I can show you the proof. I am giving you a 4 hour + notice in advance, and I am accepting the write up. I don't understand how this is wrong? 7:46 AM SMS

Like I said if you don't work today you will have to work Tuesday. I cannot, I already made plans, ma'am. I cannot help what's happened. You say you're not stupid, and you're not, but I can't really help these things and I'm following your protocol with the four hour notice and even accepting the write up, because I can understand that. I'm not going back and forth with you. If you don't show up Tuesday then you just deal with the consequences

I am not on the schedule for Tuesday? I am having a family emergency and I will accept the full consequences. I really am not trying to upset you. I am following all protocols here. Protocol is you are supposed to find someone to cover your shift if not you're supposed to work it. You do not have a legitimate excuse to not to come to work. Have a good day

I'm sorry, but isn't it your job as a manager to find someone to cover my shift when I have given you a four hour notice? With a legitimate reason of a family emergency? I genuinely don't understand. ④圈 Text message 7:54 AM SMS

I'm having a genuine family emergency at the moment, and my manager at my gas station requests a four hour heads up prior to the shift that they can't come in. I have followed every protocol, and she's now trying to demand I come in on a day I was scheduled off or I "deal with the consequences." It is not about me just wanting Sunday's off, and I think she's lashing out due to that distrust???

Did I do the right thing here? Genuinely don't get it. Isn't it the manger's place to find a replacement when I've followed everything she's asked, and is even okay with the write up? I don't call out often, and I do my best to do everything she asks of me.

InebriousBarman . 4 hr. ago Stop giving reasons for calling out. Stop giving reasons for calling out. If they require one: Food pooning.

Th3Flyy 3 hr. ago "Family emergency" is the only thing that should be disclosed... If they inquire further: "It's a private family emergency."

djd32019 4 hr. ago Never tell them specifics when it comes to needing time off. Apologize, say you can't make it in for personal reasons. And leave it at that. Work doesn't care about you, they care about their bottom line.

wonder_bear 3 hr. ago Exactly. Giving specifics just gives them more reason to say no. It's a professional relationship, they don't need the details.

VeryStickyPastry - 3 hr. ago You gave way too much info. "Family emergency, I cannot come in today. Thanks." Do not go back and forth and do not accept the write up.

LonHagler 2 hr. ago I've never worked at a place that does "write ups". Is that like taking away good boy points? It sounds like a pointless and inconsequential thing that lets managers feel like they have a stick.

VeryStickyPastry. 2 hr. ago Basically. You're not in trouble officially until you have multiple write ups. It's basically just a system to note how many times you've screwed up, at least at my corporate jobs anyway.
